1. Dietary and vitamin supplement

A dietary supplement is intended to provide nutrients that may otherwise not be consumed in sufficient quantities. Supplements as generally understood include vitamins, minerals, fiber, fatty acids, or amino acids, among other substances. U.S. authorities define dietary supplements as foods. There are more than 50,000 dietary supplements available. More than half of the U.S. adult population (53% - 55%) consume dietary supplements with most common ones being multivitamins.[1][2]

2. OTC Vitamin supplement

These Over-the Counter (OTC) vitamin and supplement specialized formulations include gender- and age-specific multivitamin supplements as well as formulations that address nutritional needs during the teen years, the reproductive years, menopause, and for those over the age of 50 years. Some multivitamin supplements are also formulated to support cardiovascular health, vision, and memory. Other formulations are marketed for those who engage in sports, those on weight loss plans, and those who want to increase their energy level.

Multivitamin and multimineral supplements come in a variety of dosage forms, including tablets and chewable, liquid, and gummy forms. Most people can meet their nutritional needs through dietary means alone, but many patients choose to use a multivitamin/multimineral supplement to ensure optimal health. Patients with severe nutritional deficiencies should always be referred to their primary health care provider for further evaluation.

3. Nutraceuticals

The term nutraceutical was coined in the 1990's by Dr. Stephen DeFelice. He defined nutraceutical as: 'A nutraceutical is any substance that is a food or a part of a food and provides medical or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease. Such products may range from isolated nutrients, dietary supplements and specific diets to genetically designer foods, herbal products, and processed foods such as cereals, soups and beverages. Health Canada defines nutraceutical as: 'a product isolated or purified from foods, and generally sold in medicinal forms not usually associated with food and demonstrated to have a physiological benefit or provide protection against chronic disease.'

4. Sport Nutrition

Sports nutrition is the study and practice of nutrition and diet as it relates to athletic performance. It is concerned with the type and quantity of fluid and food taken by an athlete, and deals with nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, supplements and organic substances such as carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Although an important part of many sports training regimens, it is most commonly considered in strength sports (such as weight lifting and bodybuilding) and endurance sports (for example cycling, running, swimming).

5. Naturopathic medicine or remedy

Naturopathy or naturopathic medicine is a form of alternative medicine employing a wide array of "natural" treatments, including homeopathy, herbalism, and acupuncture, as well as diet and lifestyle counseling. Naturopaths favor a holistic approach with non-invasive treatment and generally avoid the use of surgery and drugs. Naturopathic philosophy is based on a belief in vitalism and self-healing, and practitioners often prefer methods of treatment that are not compatible with evidence-based medicine. Naturopathic medicine is replete with pseudoscientific, ineffective, unethical, and possibly dangerous practices.

6. Traditional Chinese Medicine ( TCM)

TCM is most history used for traditional Chinese medicine of thousand years. Most commonly used as remedies or patent herbal medicine with OTC that include tablet, pill, liquid, extract powder and concentrate.
